Williams Continued from Page 7A that the team is multi-faceted now,” Steffen said. “When we go up to Washington [this weekend], we believe any play er can score the goal to help us win.” Senior sweeper Carrie McLana han agreed. “It was very encouraging be cause now we’re not counting on just Erin [Anderson] and Chalise [Baysa],” McLanahan said. Steffen is happy with the way Oregon’s freshmen have played thus far this season, saying they are playing “less minutes, but that puts pressure on them, which is good because it makes them stronger mentally.” One underclassman who im pressed Steffen against Oregon State was sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Peters, who saw her first ex tensive duty since the second half of the Ducks’ 4-0 victory over Auburn on Oct. 1. “I thought she made things look easy,” Steffen said. “There were situations where if she hadn’t han dled them smoothly, there could have been problems. “She was very poised considering she has not seen many minutes. ” Still a shot Oregon still believes it has an outside chance of making the NCAA Tournament, a feat never before accomplished in the histo ry of the program. To realistically have a shot, it needs to win against teams that it has had little success with in the past. The Ducks travel to Washington and Washington State this week end. Oregon is 0-6 against the Huskies and Cougars in the last three seasons. But the Ducks have been steadily improving against the Washington schools, losing by only a goal to each team last season after being outscored 10-1 in their first four meetings with both.
