And I am very, very pleased with
what’s coming in the door at this
program.”
The biggest of the newcomers is
junior Julius Hicks, a transfer from
West Valley Junior College in Cali
fornia, where he played with
Wright two seasons ago.
Last season, Hicks was named a
junior-college All-America selec
tion by Street & Smith after aver
aging 14 points and seven re
bounds per game while shooting
73 percent from thd field.
“I certainly feel he’s gonna be
someone that teams in this league
are gonna have to reckon with be
cause he can really finish and
score the ball down in the low
block,” Kent said.
Junior forward Bryan Bracey
would usually figure to play most
ly with his back to the basket as a
post for Oregon. But Kent plans to
use his athletic transfer from Mal
colm X Junior College in Chicago
on the perimeter as well.
“From a talent, athletic stand
point, he gives us something we
don’t have,” Kent said. “[Bracey]
New to the Flock
Bryan Bracey
6-7,210-pound junior forward from Malcolm X Junior College (Chicago)
Julius Hicks
6-8,235-pound junior forward/center from West Valley Junior College (Calif.)
Anthony Norwood
6-3,185-pound sophomore guard from Collin County Community College
(Texas)
Ben Lindquist
6-4,180-pound sophomore guard from Utah Valley State College (Utah)
can play inside or outside, he can
shoot the three, he can post up, he
can dunk the ball, he can maybe
be at the point of attack on full
court pressure being that big.”
Bracey averaged 22 points and
10 rebounds last season and was an
all-conference selection.
Sophomore guard Anthony
Norwood, a transfer from Collin
County Community College in
Texas, has the raw talent needed to
earn playing time on a crowded
Duck perimeter, according to Kent.
"I had people stopping me in
the airport, coaches, and saying,
‘Boy, [Norwood] can really play,’ ”
Kent said. “And we know that.”
Norwood average almost 20
points and seven assists to be
named the North Texas junior col
lege freshman of the year last sea
son, and he will get an opportuni
ty to flash his scoring skills at
shooting guard while also backing
up Wright at point guard.
The last junior-college transfer,
sophomore guard Ben Lindquist,
impressed Kent with his attitude.
“He [said], ‘I wanna be part of
your program and help you win,’ ”
Kent said. “I cannot put a price tag
on how valuable it is to have a men
tality like that in your program.”
Lindquist averaged eight points,
three rebounds and almost three
assists last season for Utah Valley
State College.
