other “piss-poor performance,” as
he labeled his play after the Tro
jans’ loss to Oregon last season,
the Ducks will be in good posi
tion.
However, if Soward runs wild
and is able to put his Heisman-es
que talent on full display, Ore
gon’s chances will be slim.
Next, tailback Reuben
Droughns must continue the im
provement he has shown from
game-to-game so far. With
Droughns causing considerable
problems for the USC defense,
quarterback A.J. Feeley will have
a much easier time finding Tony
Hartley, LaCorey Collins, Mar
shaun Tucker and the rest of his
receiving weapons.
Speaking of Hartley, expect the
Ducks to look for him a lot as they
did last week for the first time this
season. Now that Collins, Tucker
and company have proven their
capabilities, opposing defenses
cannot key solely on Hartley.
Hence, Hartley should be the
prime target for Feeley on Satur
day night.
Lastly, Oregon needs another
big game from its special teams. In
the last two games, the Ducks
have gotten a considerable boost
from a punt return for a touch
down by Michael Fletcher, a kick
off return for a touchdown from
Jason Cooper and a blocked punt
by Sonny Cook that rolled out of
the end zone for a safety.
Oregon must get similar pro
duction Saturday to prevail in
what will probably be a close
game, as the one-point betting
spread indicates.
If it comes down to the end,
Duck placekicker Nathan Villegas
could get his first pressure-packed
opportunity of the season and a
chance to prove himself worthy of
repeat All-American honors.
But I don’t think Villegas will
have to kick for a victory.
Momentum from the 72-10 rout
of Nevada and a raucous Autzen
Stadium crowd should push Ore
gon to its 11th straight home win
by at least a touchdown.
