give Oregon a professional look

Oregon Daily Emerald
Register-Guard columnist Ron
Bellamy hates the Oregon football
team’s new uniforms.
Team members who spoke with
the Emerald all like them — al
though they admitted having to re
peatedly tuck them in becomes
tiresome, and the black socks
worn at home games took some
getting used to.
The Ducks’ fans are tom.
Love them or hate them, they’re
definitely different.
Oregon’s traditional emerald
green-and-yellow uniforms with
generic jersey numerals on the
front and back might as well be an
cient history.
They’ve been replaced by new
— snazzy? hideous? — uniforms
with different colors and a differ
ent fit. The new uniforms hug
player’s bodies more than the old
ones, similar to what the NFL’s
Denver Broncos have been sport
ing the past few seasons.
And the current Ducks don’t
wear emerald anymore. They
wear mallard green, spruce green,
lightening yellow and, when
they’re on the road, a lot of white.
“I like 'em,” placekicker Nathan
Villegas said. “The dark green and
the helmets— really nice.”
The dark green to which Ville
gas refers is the spruce shade on
the pants and torso of the uniform.
On the home jerseys spruce green
is offset by the lighter mallard
green on the sleeves.
Some fans have commented
that the combination makes the
players look like they have sweaty
backs — even before the game has
begun.
If they’ve noticed, the players
don’t seem to mind.
“I think they’re cool,” tight end
LaCorey Collins said. “We’re a
new team and we need a new
look.”
Positive consensus exists on
one aspect: the helmets, which are
a dark, iridescent green, and dis
play the stylish new Oregon “O”
logo.
Even the Ducks’ opponents find
themselves admiring the head
gear.
“The Michigan State tight end
said he liked the way out helmets
looked,” linebacker Dietrich
Moore said, “how they’re all iri
descent and stuff.”
