Music, music, music Summer in Eugene not always a drag Contrary to any grumbling you may have heard, summertime around this town is far from, say, a winter stint in Siberia. For one, there are usually more hippies here than you’ll ever find on a frozen tundra. Ahh, but we jest. In addition to our patchouli scented friends, many others in habit the city from now until late September, when the University boots up again, full-scale. Those who have survived the past eight months of mizzle are jonesing for the sun-soaked days ahead. And they’d better be sun-soaked, dammit. Because, you see, besides the normal activities — you know, like river “skurfing” down by the Autzen Footbridge, or acting crazy at Ems games, where win ning comes second to funning, or hiking in the area’s gazillion acres of national forest, or even just hangin’ on the street comer, wait in’ on a friend, as Mick Jagger Pete Juju performs at the Oregon Counby Fair on July 10. That’s just in the city limits, y’all. You can also head north to Portland and end up right back in the ‘70s with the Original Bad Company, keep on truckin’ to Washington state for Dave Matthews and Jimmy Cliff, mon, or backtrack all the way down to Jacksonville and get your music fix with the Cowboy Junkies. There’s more of course, but we don’t want to spoil the fun of reading our events calendar.
