r The EMU Croft Center is a comprehensive Arts Program of f eri ng welI equipped f aciIi+ies and workshopsin most areas of the Visual Arts. The program is Doth educational and recreational, encouraging all levels of interest, from beginning hobbyist to serious artist. Our intimate, informarworkshops are taught by accomplished artists and craf ts people. The emphasis is on high-quality individual instruction designed to encourageyou to pursue your creative side. Most workshops are offered in the late afternoon or evening to fit your class or work sched ule. We also offer $5 introducfory workshops (see back page for listing). PHOTOGRAPHY Valerie Nguyen This course is intended for those who have had some darkroom experience but may be rusty on skills from years past. Basic camera use, film development, and printing will be covered. Course is demonstration and lecture based. 6 hours of instruction. Membership not required. Tues, June 29 & July 6 2:30-5:30 pm $25 PLU#6001 Jeri Mrazek Improve your printing skills and experiment with different techniques and ideas. An instructor will be at every session to help with your individual projects & problems. Prior darkroom experience is required. Bring ideas, negatives and paper to first class. Some chemicals are provided. 15 hours of instruction. Membership not required. Week 9, Aug 16-20 6:30-9:30 pm $45 PLU#6002 Dworakowski, Thompson, Staff Learn camera use, develop B & W film, make black & white contact prints and enlargements. Composition, the camera, and darkroom tech niques will be covered. Bring a manual 35mm camera to class. Film, chemicals & paper pro vided. Sections A & B, 18 hours of instruction. In this course you will design and weave a rectangu lar 5x5x7 inch continuous twill basket in two colors. 6 hours of instruction. No membership required. Tues & Wed, Aug 3 & 4 6:00-9:00 pm $30 PLU#6008 Katherine Cross Experience the fundamentals of weaving on a 4 harness table loom. We'll design a small project, which may be a scarf, bag or wall hanging. You will learn to warp the loom, and then choose colors to enhance your pattern and design. Wed, June 30-Aug 4 6:30-9:00 pm $45 PLU#6009 Katherine Cross Explore the possibilities of yarn design while creating your own handspun wool. Start on the drop spindle and then move to the spinning wheel. Experiment with the art of natural and synthetic dyeing. Tech niques in hand painted wool roving and yarn will be featured. No membership required Week 9, Aug 16-20 6:30-9:30 pm $45 PLU#6010 Lana Elder Experience the unusual technique of Devore’ fabric burnout, an etching method of nap removal, which creates unique depths & layers in the fabric. You will make a colorful, elegant scarf of silk & rayon velvet. Cost includes one 9”x54” rayon /silk scarf & dyes. Additional scarves available for purchase. 6 hours of instruction. Well, now’s the time to learn to repair a flat, change a tube & tire, overhaul bearing sets, adjust gears and brakes, and true your wheels. Treat your bike well and it will give you miles of fun.
