Fall Term 1999

The event showcased
various exhibits, theater
and musical groups

Musical performances, acting
and art exhibits were some of the
activities 300 people turned out
to sample at the Campus Arts
Faire on Saturday.
Organizers said the fair is
growing in size and finding a
niche for itself as an annual
event. It is co-sponsored by the
Oregon Alumni Association, the
University Bookstore and partic
ipating departments.
Among the performances was
the preview for the upcoming
Robinson Theater production
“The Dark of the Moon.’’ Cast
members gave enthusiastic rendi
tions of traditional folk songs
from the play.
“We just wanted to get the
word out about our production,
and have a good time,” cast
member Bekki Barnhart said.
“Just a little propaganda to help
us out.”
Artistic publicity was another
bonus.
“Local and campus artists
don’t get much representation
and this event helps to broaden
the awareness,” said senior
Nicole Mione, a fair volunteer.
Julia Neufeld and the Gospel
Choir held the attention of about
100 people in the EMU Am
phitheater with their perfor
mances of traditional spiritual
songs. Many passersby stopped,
listened and tapped their feet.
“This is a really hip event that

pus Art Faire Saturday afternoon.
brings more recognition to the
different liberal arts departments
on campus,” education major Jes
sica Bom said.
One of the final outdoor perfor
mances was the Absolute Improv
student theater group. The inter
active show included an impro
visation of a slow motion contest
of potato peeling in an open toi
let bowl.
“This year we attempted to
place more attention on the audi
ence and to make it more interac
tive,” event coordinator Amy
Schoeffler said. “We see it as a
very unifying event for the Uni
versity.”
Children also attended the
events, participating in the Kids
Dance Workshop. They focused
on getting the steps down with
brows furrowed and held rapt at
tention during the storytelling
session in the Museum of Art
conference room.
Under parents’ watchful eyes
they played with the sidewalk
chalk art, were adorned with
jewelry recently made by fine
arts students and ran around the

faces, courtesy of theater arts stu

Schoeffler said the fair is creat
ing a niche for itself on the list of
annual activities at the Universi
ty
“We were very pleased with
the turnout this year,” Schoeffler
said. “We look for even greater
improvement for next year and
we definitely aim to make this an
annual affair.”
