In the pole vault, Niki Reed surprised an all-star field to fin ish first, courtesy of a new per sonal best at 12 feet, 7 1/2 inch es. “When I came out here today, I felt like I had good energy — I was ready to jump higher today,” Reed said. Heidi Fisk took second place in the hammer throw, setting a new school record in the event with a throw of 183-6. Earlier in April, Fisk set her previous school record of 177-9. Jennifer Cutburth placed fifth in the javelin, tying her personal best mark of 136-8. Aisha Wallace, Endia Abrante and Sue Morris each finished with season-best marks in the 400. Wallace led the Ducks in fourth place with a time of 55.69, Abrante finished seventh with a time of 56.76 and Morris finished eighth in 56.80. Katie Rowlett finished seventh in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.72, and teammate Jenny Kenyon followed in eighth with a time of 14.95. Melissa Abram son finished fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.42. UO women lose way in quest for NCAAs The men’s golf team earns second place in the U.S. Intercollegiate By Tim Pyle Oregon Daily Emerald Promise turned to disappoint ment for the Oregon women’s golf team at the NCAA West Regional. After finishing the first day in Houston in sixth place, the Ducks dropped to 12th Friday during day two and remained in that spot at the conclusion of Saturday’s final round. By failing to finish in the top 10, Oregon was denied earning a berth in the NCAA Champi onships, which will be played in Tulsa, Okla., from May 19-21. Angie Rizzo and Jerilyn White paced the Ducks with 231 totals that earned them ties for 39th in dividually. Pam Sowden finished tied for 55th, Karen Bristow claimed a tie for 66th and Dawn Berry tied for 84th. Southern California won the team title with an 879 total, and Arizona, Arizona State and Stan ford were the other Pacific-10 Conference teams to secure na tionals berths. Individually, the Wildcats’ Jen na Daniels won first place by four strokes over the Sun Devils’ Grace Park and Nevada’s Angie Yoon. Meanwhile, the men’s golf team claimed second place in the 19-team U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford. In their final preparatory tournament be fore the NCAA West Regional in Tucson, Ariz., on May 20-22, the Ducks shot a three-round total of 862 to finish 10 strokes behind Brigham Young. “I’m really proud,” head coach Steve Nosier said in a released statement. “We accomplished a lot, and the momentum will help us with the west regionals coming up. “This was a confidence builder for us.” Individually, Ben Crane led the way for Oregon with a fourth place total of 210. Andrew Tred way finished tied for 12th, Adri an Burtner tied for 39th and Derek Croskrey and Ryan Lavoie shot 223s, one stroke behind Burtner.
