rights are achieved. This year, our
goal is to let American organiza
tions and El Salvador organiza
tions know that we know about
the Christmas firings. We want to
make sure that no workers are
fired this year.”
Miksch is hopeful this cam
paign will force American busi
nesses to change the way they do
business with El Salvador.
“I am realistic in knowing that
this social change will take time,”
Miksch said. "We won’t be able to
see results in a few weeks, and it
won’t happen overnight. Ulti
mately, though, American compa
nies will pay attention to this situ
ation. They are in the business to
make money; they can’t afford to
have Americans boycott their
products because of how they do
business in El Salvador.”
For more information about
the Christmas firings in El Sal

vited to stop by the CISCAP infor
mational table today. This table

Post-tenure review
policy may be revised
A University Senate committee
presented a set of proposed proce
dures for post-tenure review to
the University assembly Wednes
day evening.
The draft from the 13-member
committee is intended to replace
the current post-tenure policies.
The issue is still under discussion
but if it is approved, the proposal
will be forwarded to President
Dave Frohnmayer as a representa
tion of the University assembly’s
recommendation.
Some proposed changes in
clude switching from the current
evaluation every five years to two
sets of more frequent reviews.
“This is something that allows
faculty to take a step back and
think about their careers,” said
Mike Russo, committee chair.
This proposed system of review
will be more of a development
oriented process than the current
system which is more evaluation
oriented, Russo said.
Seaside murder suspect
wants trial relocated
The Associated Press
ASTORIA — A lawyer for one of
the two suspects in the 1997 Sea
side beach murders wants the trial
to be moved, saying his client can’t
get a fair trial in Clatsop County.
Attorney Glenn Faber said prej
udice against defendant Bradley
Charles Price, 23, is so great that a
fair jury cannot be seated. Faber
filed a motion Tuesday in Clatsop
County Circuit Court to move the
trial out of the county.
To prove his point, Faber said
he has hired a Portland public re
lations firm to poll Clatsop County
residents about their perceptions
of the case.
Lawyers for Price’s co-defen
dant, Jesse Carl McAllister, 20, did
not file a change of venue motion
by Tuesday, the deadline set by a
judge.
Price and McAllister are
charged with aggravated murder
in the shooting deaths of Gabriella
Brooke Goza, 26, and Frank
“Kacy” Nimz Jr., 36, just before
dawn July 14, 1997. The victims
were shot in the head at close
range, with no apparent motive.
Clatsop County District Attorney
Josh Marquis said- Wednesday he
would fight Price’s request to hold
the trial outside of Clatsop County.
“Trials are held in the commu
nity for a reason,” he said. “It’s
community justice. I really think
people in this county can give
these defendants a fair shake.”
Clatsop County Circuit Judge
Phil Nelson will hold a hearing
and decide whether to move the
trial. The hearing date has not
been set.
Price and McAllister, who were
roommates, fled together to Mexi
co after the shootings. They were
tracked down a year later. McAl
lister was arrested July 19 after he
crossed the border into
Brownsville, Texas. Price was ar
rested two days later in the Mexico
City nightclub where the fugitives
had worked as bartenders and
strippers.
Marquis will seek the death
penalty for McAllister and life im
prisonment for Price. Price es
caped the possibility of execution
in a deal struck by U.S. officials to
gain his return from Mexico.
