Expires December 8, 1998 Dion Continued from Page 5 both.” Those experiences, along with the guidance of her grandfather, have made Dion’s transition into college basketball a smooth ex perience. She spent her fresh man season mostly on the bench. But rather than sulk, she turned it into a learning experi ence. “Sitting on the bench and watching really made me realize how intense the Pac-10 was,” Dion said. "I watched people in my position and saw what worked and what didn’t. I try to incorporate that into my play now.” It appears to be working. Dion has seen increased playing time this season and is already one of Oregon’s record setters in the weight room. She combines strength with endurance to be a threat every time she steps on the court. “Lindsey is a very strong and physical player,” Runge says. "She is always ready to play and brings great enthusiasm to the game. She has worked hard to accomplish things that we ex pect from our players.” Dion is still working. As a sophomore this season, she real izes how far she still has to go to become the kind of player she wants to be. But she also knows that basketball is only one part of her young life. Academics continues to play a vital role in defining who she will become, as well as providing her life with balance. “When people put so much emphasis on their sport some times it doesn’t always go right and then they get totally bummed about not performing well," Dion says. “But when you have other categories to fall back on you can divert your interests into other areas.” Dion says she is not a master at the collegiate level, but she appears to have mastered what it takes to get there. Dion feels her experiences with her grandfa ther and her contributions at Oregon thus far, make her a vi able candidate for a starting role in the years to come. But Dion isn’t worried. Al though she is a persistent indi vidual, she describes herself as patient. She realizes that her knowledge of the game will take her far. And she is right where she was always meant to be — playing college ball. Continued from Page 5 Following the August accident, Abmielec Saucedo and Richard Hardick said Tyson attacked them.
