The Women’s Studies major will be available to students this fall. The 22-year-old program has been losing students to degree granting programs in California and Washington, said Judith Raiskin, the program’s director. Previously students were able to graduate with a Women’s Studies minor or graduate certificate. The major will require students to minor in another field of study to provide a broad educational background. The Judaic Studies major was made possible by a $1.5 million grant from the Harold and Arlene Schnitzer C.A.R.E. Foundation. The core courses will include two years of modern Hebrew and in terdisciplinary courses that focus on Jewish history, culture and phi losophy. Richard Stein, steering committee chair, is searching for a Judaic studies program director. OSPIRG works toward re-establishment OSPIRG will attempt to gauge the amount of student support on campus this fall after failing to se cure student funding through a ballot measure last spring. The group engages in environmental, consumer and social advocacy. The University chapter of OS PIRG lost a ballot request for $147,390 in the last ASUO elec tions. The group still retains ASUO recognition and its office space. Seattle Coffee Co. wins EMU contract Seattle Coffee Company won the EMU coffee contract worth $60,000 a year after the second se lection process. The results of the first selection process awarded the three-year contract to Seattle Coffee Co. last spring, but the results were dis puted. Competitors participating in the first selection process con tended that an unreliable taste test gave Seattle Coffee an unfair score, and the test was eliminated in the second round of selection. A panel of four administrators and two students judged the com petitors on price, contract perfor mance, service, training, market ing and promotion. Seattle Coffee Co. will provide two choices, Seattle’s Best Coffee and Torrefazione Italia, in the EMU, AAA Hearth Cafe in Lawrence Hall, Daily Grind in the Knight Library and Atrium Cafe in Willamette Hall. Police station replaces 7-Eleven trailer A new police station is being built on the comer of Alder Street and 13th Avenue in the Sacred Heart Medical Center parking lot. The station will have an extra room to conduct interviews and fill out reports. Beverly Mason, the community service officer, said the new sta tion will create a better relation ship between business owners and community members. — compiled by Kristina Rudinskas Regular Lunch & Dinner Buffet served everyday. 004025 Now- Vatfeia/Uo^t.
