As exciting as Eugene can be,
some people may feel cramped,
cooped up or just feel an itch to
get out of dodge. Of the many
places to escape to, a handful of
day trips may be just what some
one needs. From whale watching
to wine tasting, Oregon provides
many opportunities to satisfy the
cabin fever in just about everyone.
In no particular order, here is a
top ten list of somewhat-local,
kinda-close getaways.
Portland
“Everything's coming up ros
es...” This major city is not just
limited to shopping and the occa
sional concert. At the Internation
al Rose Test Gardens you can stop
and smell more than 500 varieties
of roses in Washington Park. En
joy an evening watching the local
athletic events at the Rose Gar
den. The Tom McCall Waterfront
Park, once a freeway, is now a
two-mile greenway that provides
a pleasant venue for just about
anything.
The Coast
Sand castles, seals, surfing and

Hot springs
If aromatic candles aren’t
enough, actual nature may do the
trick. There are many hot springs
located throughout Oregon. Many
require a small hike to the natural
springs, but it’s worth it. The hot
springs provide relaxation with a
twist of nature. At many loca
tions, clothing is optional.
