companies that proposed,” Cole
man-Kaiser said. “It’s interesting
that Seattle Coffee Company won
again."
Galvin said a decision of this
caliber undergoes a large amount
of scrutiny, and Seattle Coffee
Co. understood this was a big de
cision for the University.
“The process was fair in giving
the University a company to fit
its needs,” Galvin said.
“[Seattle Coffee Co.] demon
strated they had a broad range of
coffee to choose from,” Coleman
Kaiser said. “We’re excited to up
grade the quality ot cottee tor the
EMU."
Seattle Coffee Co. will offer
customers the choice of two
brands of coffee — Seattle’s Best
Coffee and Torrefazione Italia —
now that it has won the three
year contract to serve the EMU.
The contract is worth a projected
$60,000 each year and will be
serving The Buzz coffeehouse,
the Greatful Bread bakery and
the Erb Essentials convenience
store in the EMU. In addition, the
contract extends to the AAA
Hearth Cafe in Lawrence Hall,
the Daily Grind in the Knight Li
brary and the Atrium Cafe in
Willamette Hall.
The company feels it will be
able to offer many choices
through both brands, Galvin said.
Seattle Coffee Co. is excited to be
the coffee roaster of choice for
the University, he said. In addi
tion to the University of Oregon,
Seattle Coffee Co. has contacts
with other schools including the
University of Washington and
Harvard University.
“We feel as if we’re a local
company,” Galvin said. “It’s a
great fit for the company and a
great fit for the University.”

said.
OIT’s enrollment is going up despite visibility
problems, he added.
Chancellor Joe Cox was unavailable for comment
on the new system.
“[It] will be increasingly accountable to the peo
ple of Oregon in general and benefit the students,
businesses and communities that we serve in par
ticular,” Cox said in a press release.
Gov. Kitzhaber remarked that he was pleased
with the plan, which he has lauded as bringing an
end to a “decade of disinvestment.”
Kitzhaber added that he was particularly pleased
with the plans to make community college academ
ic credits completely transferable to OUS campus
es.
Philip Bransford, an assistant director for the
chancellor, said the system should foster growth.
“It definitely strives toward increasing autonomy
on a campus level,” he said.
