and Sunday. The rodeo included bronco and hull riding, barrel racing, calf-roping and special

Grayson Hall to be
renovated in 1999
Plans for the renovation of
Grayson Hall are slowly taking
shape. The building is current
ly the home of the law school
but will be unoccupied when
the new William W. Knight
Law Center opens in early
1999.
A selection committee will
choose an architectural firm
from among six finalists today
to design the renovation.
According to University
planning associate Fred
Tepfer, most of the faculty of
fices and classrooms will re
tain those functions. However,
the library may be turned into
classroom space on the second
floor and offices and a lounge
on the third floor. Currently,
plans call for the history and
ethnic studies departments to
occupy those two floors, said
Tepfer.
There are also preliminary
plans to technologically up
date some of the classrooms.
Tepfer suggested the changes
may take the form of comput
erized projection systems, but
said that planning was still in
its early stages.
The fate of the first floor of
Grayson Hall is even less de
fined. Tepfer said it may house
a computing lab or other com
puter-related services such as
the hardware repair shop. But
Lynn Buffing of University
Computing said most of the
plans for the first floor were
still in flux. “It seems there is a
real need for an open lab on
that side of campus,” Buffing
said. She stressed that the con
struction of one was contin
gent on the architect’s final
plans, though. A computing
lab — if one is built at all —
may be a training lab instead of
a public lab, she said.
The $3 million renovation
project is tentatively sched
uled for completion in Sep
tember 1999. Donors Jeffrey
and Susan Grayson, for whom
the building is named, are pro
viding $1.5 million of the
needed funding with the rest
coming from the state.
