want low student fees

sues such as rape, eating disorders
and drinking.
Hemingway and Bostic want to
revamp student government so it
will be realistic and fight for stu
dent needs instead of using the
ASUO to meet personal goals, pet
projects or political payoffs.
“This is not a resumfr-padding
experience,” Bostic explained.
“We want to make all the incipi
ent things stop."
Personal agendas in student
government annoy them, Heming
way and Bostic said.
“Let’s start with the basics —
managing the incidental fee and
doing this voluntarily, not as a
training ground for politics,”
Hemingway said.
Next year the incidental fee
could fall under attack in the state
legislature. Hemingway and
Bostic vow to keep student fees
down and manage the fee respon
sibly to show the legislature they
can be responsible with funding.
This credibility will allow them to
lobby for a tuition break or freeze.
Bostic is not opposed to cap
ping the incidental fee or cutting
it. She said she believes student
volunteers do more and better
work than stipend workers.
They want a working partner
ship with the administration to
meet students’ needs. They also
suggest healing the relationship
between students and the Eugene
Police Department and the Office
of Public Safety.
“Quite frankly, the Eugene po
lice have a responsibility to under
stand this is college and drinking
is going to happen,” Bostic said.
Hemingway and Bostic want to
foster a better relationship with the
police and public safety offices.
“Maybe it’s time the ASUO
throws a party to teach students
how to throw a party,” she said.
