McKinley St. Attack: Area generates many police calls N Continued from Page 1 handgun. However, the case will now be forwarded to the Lane County District Attorney for re view. Reeves said he didn’t find it unusual that Shaver had two weapons. "He’s lived in Eugene a long time. He reads the newspapers and sees the news. He is aware of the troubles that go on in that area and what he can run into,” Reeves said. “It’s not common [to carry two guns], but it doesn't speak anything more. Even though Shaver was suc cessful in fending off his attack ers, Roberts said carrying a weapon is not always the an swer. “It’s a personal choice," he said. “I would tell people who are out walking around to be aware of their surroundings. Are there cars around? Where are they at? Are they in a dark area or in a populated area?” Roberts said the reason for the attack was because Long and Durrett perceived Shaver to be a drug dealer and they intended to take away a duffel bag he was carrying. However, Roberts said there is no evidence that Shaver is a drug dealer. But he said this could have been assumed be cause of the area Shaver was walking through. “We know the area has gener ated a lot of calls for service nighttime and daytime,” Roberts said. "The police department continues to see that and to fo cus in on the area as much as it can. > MMWBMfe. i .Nf-, j, ■>&>>''?&%--£> IS** ■ ' * ■ ' ’s'*J. ,...y.., - «'** SUIT: $ a I 0 MORE RESUMES:$40 HANGING UP YOUR WAtTER'S APRON FOR THE LAST TIME i CE LE THERE ARE SOME THINGS MONEY CAN'T SUY.
