Ducks beat UNLV
at tournament
Katie Mackey and Jill Robin
son each hit home runs as part
of their two-of-three perfor
mances as tile Oregon softball
team concluded the UNLV
Softball Classic with a 4-3 vic
tory over UNLV in Las Vegas,
Nev., on Sunday.
Pitcher Jennie Cook scat
tered six Lady Rebel hits over
six innings to improve her
record to 4-3 for the season.
Oregon, which dropped an er
ror-filled game to Hawaii late
Saturday evening, finished tire
five-team tournament with a 4
1 record.
Prior to Sunday’s finale, the
Ducks (6-4) posted a 9-2 win
against No. 8 Colorado State
on Friday and a 8-2 victory
against No. 18 Utah on Satur
day. The wins marked Ore
gon's third and fourth victo
ries against ranked opponents
this season. This is a sign of a
team that is improving and
starting to make all of the rou
tine plays needed to win ball
games, head coach Rick
Gamez said.

Hockey: UCLA boasts three victories
n Continued from Page 7
Captain and all-time leading
scorer Ezra Louthis and defense
men Jordan Weiner, Jason Khan
and Chris Eberle are among the
eight seniors who finished their
Oregon careers Sunday.
The No. 3 Bruins lost to No. 2
Stanford 3-2 in the first game of
the tournament Saturday
evening. UCLA had a 2-1 lead en
tering the third period against the
Cardinal, but it was unable to
protect its lead and earn a spot in
the championship game.
Sunday’s game marked the
fourth meeting between the
Ducks and Bruins this season
with the result being three UCLA
victories in the four contests.
The Bruins’ first scoring line of
center Eric Eisner, wing Ben
Theule and wing Dumas
Maugile tormented the Ducks by
combining for six goals and nine
assists.
“It was a bac:k-and-forth game,
the momentum switched hack
and forth,” Norman said. “But
definitely one of the keys was
staying out of the [penalty] box,
and we unfortunately didn’t do
it.”
The Bruins scored two goals in
nine power-play chances and an
other one a second after a power
play ended. The Ducks cashed in
twice on five power-play oppor
tunities.
UCLA dominated the early
stages of the game. They claimed
a 3-0 lead with 14:51 remaining
in the second period when Eisner
scored unassisted on a break
away.
Oregon ended its scoring futili
ty when Louthis, who plays right
wing, found center Erik Williams
just to the left of the Bruins’ net
for a power-play goal.
The Bruins and Ducks then
traded goals to finish the second
period with UCLA leading 4-2.
Oregon freshman wing Peter Har
ris’ scored the first of his three
consecutive goals with 44 sec
onds remaining to gain some mo
mentum heading into the locker
room.
However, UCLA quickly resur
rected its three-goal lead again
1:16 into the third period when
Eisner scored his third goal.
Harris responded by scoring
two goals within 12 seconds to
narrow UCLA’s lead to one and
put the Ducks in a position to
pull-off a comeback.
But the Bruins finished Oregon
off with two more goals from
their productive first line. Theule
scored UCLA's sixth goal with
eight minutes remaining, and
Maugile closed the scoring with
1:04 left to play.
