Several items stolen
from faculty locker
1 Several items were stolen from
a room in Lawrence Hall last
weekend, a police report stated.
The secretary of the Universi
ty’s fine arts department report
ed the break-in Jan. 19 and told
an officer that someone had en
tered Room 197 and cut open
padlocks on three faculty lock
ers. The secretary said she then
contacted the faculty using those
lockers, and only one reported
items missing.
The items taken from the lock
er were a Canon camera belong
ing to a male faculty member and
a Sony video camcorder owned
by the University.
The break-in is believed to
have occurred between Jan. 6
and 19 during the hours of 4:45
and 7:45 p.m.
Police arrest man for
marijuana possession
2A 29-year-old Eugene man
was arrested and charged with
possessing less than an ounce of
marijuana Jan. 16 after police
stopped him for a bicycle viola
tion, a police report stated.
At approximately 4:48 p.m., of
ficers stopped the man for not
having proper lighting equipment.
The officers said heavy rain at the
time required lights. After stop
ping the man, the officers noticed
he matched the description of a
r
man who completed a hand-to
hand transaction about an hour
before.
One of the officers said he
thought the exchange was likely
a marijuana sale.
The officers then told the man
their information and asked to
search him. The man then be
came so nervous that his hands
and knees began to noticeably
tremble.
An officer told the man he
would search him anyway be
cause of previous observations.
The man admitted to having mar
ijuana. and police located the il
legal substance in his right coat
pocket.
The man said he used the mar
ijuana for personal use and
would never sell it.
The man was issued a citation
and released.
Man charged with
stealing, selling bike
3A 30-year-old male transient
was arrested and charged
with theft after it was discovered
he sold a stolen bicycle to a local
bicycle shop, a police report
stated.
The bicycle was reported
stolen Dec. 18 of last year and
was sold to Second Nature Bicy
cles, located at 446 E. 13th St., on
Jan. 2 by the suspect.
An officer was unable to locate
the man because he was a tran
sient. The officer put a notice in
the police computer system to
contact the officer should the
man be located.
The man was stopped by an
other officer for a traffic infrac
tion Jan. 16 near Bethel Drive
and Wood Avenue. The first offi
cer responded to the stop in or
der to talk to the man about the
bicycle.
The first officer told the man
why he arrived at the scene, and
the man agreed to talk to the offi
cer about the bicycle.
The man said he found the bi
cycle in some bushes near the
Buckley House. He said it ap
peared that someone hid the bi
cycle for later retrieval.
The man said he thought the
bicycle was worth about $150,
but he sold it for $30 “because
that’s all they would give me for
it.” He admitted he didn’t have
the right to sell the bicycle but he
needed the money for a motel
room.
The man said he had the bicy
cle for about a day, but made no
attempt to locate the owner or
call the police to see if the bicy
cle had been reported lost or
stolen.
The man was given a citation
and released.
