Grind: Students enjoyed Seattle’s Phat Sidy Smokehouse
~ vvmiiiubu iiuiii i aye l
The American Girls gave way
to the San Francisco trio Mum
blin’ Jim. Broun Feelins and head
liner Weapon of Choice were the
final two acts.
The Grind, which was held in
the fall for the first time since it
became an annual event, went for
“quality over quantity” this year,
according Zwickel. It was also
moved from the EMU East Lawn
to the field behind McArthur
Court because of the University
administration’s objections to
safety, Zwickel said.
Junior Pamela Huyser was one
of hundreds who showed up
solely for Ben Harper at last
year’s Grind. This year, she ar
rived in time to see Phat Sidy.
"I heard the music and came
out here and tried to get some
thing done,” Huyser said after
giving up on working in a com
puter lab.
On a warm and sunny after
((I beard the music
and came out here and
tried to get something
done.

noon, Huyser’s decision seemed
like a popular one,
“I’m just out here enjoying the
good weather and taking in the
music,” junior Chris O’Halloran
said.
Everyone got a chance to see
where today’s popular music
comes from. Phat Sidy Smoke
house sounds similar to Rage
Against the Machine, and the
band’s funky rhythms were rem
iniscent of the music that some
radio stations currently play.
The Oregon Grind offered a
cultural education for everyone.
