Award: Lesage’s classes focus on film ■ Continued from Page 1 is honest in how she goes about her work,” she said. Lesage’s classes focus on film. “She is up on all the latest in avant garde film and video,” Westling said. “She brings all of that to her teaching. She’s quite a versatile teacher.” The Johnson Award is named after former University President Johnson, who died while serving as president in 1969. A five-member faculty com mittee makes the Johnson Award selection from nominations sub mitted by faculty, staff and stu dents. The decisions are based on candidates’ demonstrated service to the University and its commu nity and the exemplification of the principles affirmed by John son, including freedom of speech, adaptation to social change and the desire for truth. Louise Westling English Department Head Meeting: Both transfers were approved ■ Continued from Page 1 “This is something that we need to pay for, and it would be great if it came out of our own budget,” Unger said. “USSA is important. We’re lucky to have two board members,” Wasson said. The motion to allow the ASUO Executive to trans fer $257 to their travel line item was passed unani mously. “The transfer will show in the ASUO budget,” Black said, assuring Wasson’s concerns that the bud get would show that the Executive had spent the money on office supplies. Miner agreed. “The amount we get for office sup plies is ridiculous,” he said. Miner said the Executive would ask for a decrease next year. The second special request was from the Black Stu dent Union (BSU). BSU officials were not present at the meeting because they were told the wrong meet ing time, so Miner, as ASUO president, represented them. The BSU requested the Student Senate to trans fer $450 from the surplus fund in order to pay their as sistant director. Miner explained that due to a mistake, the old as sistant director (AD) was still getting paid while the new AD was not. However, the old AD was being billed by the University for the amount paid to him. That money would go into the surplus fund to make up for the $450. However, the BSU account was in debt by approxi mately $92. The senators voted to transfer $542 in or der to make certain that the BSU could pay their new AD $450. For their work this summer, the student senators will receive $25 a month. Senate meetings are held every month and are open to the public. The next meeting will be July 16 at 6 p.m. Check with EMU Scheduling for the location..
