On Feb. 10, it will bring him to Eugene for a con cert in the EMU Ballroom. Tickets for the show are sold out. “Tickets went on sale Monday, a cou ple of weeks after school started, and they were sold out by noon Tuesday,” INSIDE ■ Beck's latest release, Odelay, is a masterpiece that is full of surprises and successfully experi mental songs/10 said Benjamin Samrick, national music coordinator for the EMU Cul tural Forum. It’s not often that Eugene gets a visit from a performer as important and acclaimed as Beck. He recently man aged to grab the spotlight as Spin’s Artist of the Year, and his latest album has been ranked as Album of the Year in var ious magazines, including Rolling Stone's Readers’ Poll. “[Beck] is probably one of the hottest artists on tour right now,” Samrick said. “His is one of the most requested tours in the country.” Beck has been selling out 4,000-ticket venues across the country, so it’s no sur prise the EMU Cultural Forum’s 1,000 tickets went so quickly. "I think it’s really cool that people get to see him in a smaller venue,” Samrick said Beck hails from Los Angeles where he was born. As a teenager, he played the acoustic guitar and was influenced by traditional folk and blues legends such as Woody Gutherie and Fred McDowell. Turn to BECK, Page 10 Tuvan throat singers to sing at Beall Hall Huun-Huur-Tu, a group of throat-singers, will perform at Beall Hall Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Throat-singing, also known as khobmei, is an art in which each vocalist sings two or three distinct notes simultane ously. The vocals often imitate animal cries or the sound of wind. Tickets are $15 in advance. The band is on tour in support of their current release, Fever In Fever Out, which was recorded in New Oreleans. The album has sold 140,000 copies since its release Oct. 29. Joe Goode Group The Joe Goode Performance Group, which weaves dance, theater, music and text into their performance, will j visit the Hult Center Feb. 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $16, and student dis counts are avail able.
