Ducks seek third-straight vs UW

If there was ever a time to win a
game, Oregon knows it is now.
Not only are the Ducks winless
in their last four games and in the
Pacific-10 Conference, but the
Washington Huskies (3-1 Pac-10,
4-2 overall) come marching into
Eugene seeking revenge for two
straight losses against Oregon (0-4
Pac-10,3-4 overall).
The good news for the Ducks is
the return of several players who
have been seeing limited action ih
the last couple of games. A bye last
weekend gave Oregon a much
needed rest.
“I would say this is the healthi
est we’ve been since the first or
second game,” head coach Mike
Bellotti said. “Hopefully we’ll get
Mark Schmidt back. He hasn’t re
ally played in the last two games.
Bryant Jackson has been hobbling
with foot and ankle problems. But
a week off is not going to change
that. He’s just playing through the
pain.

help them dramatically. More im
portantly, getting those four guys
back'will take the fond off of-our
redshirt freshmen.”
The Ducks’ defense will be test
ed against Washington’s running
game. The Huskies are averaging
about 32 points and 162 rushing
yards a game. Leading the pack is
Corey Dillon, who has rushed for
648 yards this season including a
145-yard, five-touchdown game
last weekend against UCLA.
Rashaan Shehee, Washington’s
leading rusher last season, has
seen limited action in recent
weeks after injuring his foot when
jumping off a balcony at a party.
He did not play against the Bruins
and is questionable for Saturday.
Oregon defensive coordinator
Rich Stubler called both Dillon
and Shehee excellent players.
"Dillon can really run the foot
ball,” Stubler said. “He’s abehind
the-pads, no-nonsense kind of
runner.
“Shehee is a different guy. He
will dart to the hole. He picks a
place, sees it and lowers his pads.
And he’s a load at 225 [pounds]. If
he gets into the open field he has
got the speed to break it. ”
Defensively, the Huskies bring
strongside linebacker Jason
Chorak, who already has 10 sacks
and 15.5 tackles-for-losses this
season. But it is Washington's in
side linebackers who are the real
threats. John Fiala and Ink Aleaga
have combined for 111 tackles this
season.
Bellotti believes this powerful
trio will keep the Ducks’ offensive
line on its toes.
“Washington’s front four come
with reckless abandon,” Bellotti
said, “and occasionally they’ll
send in the safeties and inside
linebackers, which puts added
pressure on the line to determine
