Ballots are available at tables set up throughout the downtown area for anyone wanting to take part in choosing a new name for the plaza, which is located at Broadway and Willamette Street. Ballots contain six names as possible choices: Celebration Square, Skinner’s Crossing, Cen ter of the Universe, Broadway Plaza, Downtown Center Square and Four Seasons Square. The six names were chosen out of more than 300 names nominat ed by city residents earlier in the year, said Russ Brink, executive director of Downtown Eugene, Inc. “We received over 300 names and our marketing team narrowed it down to six they felt were the gg We aren ’t planning to make the official announcement until the Grand Reopening Celebration. —Russ Brink Executive dir. of Downtown Eugene, Inc. -93 most appropriate and fitting,” Brink said. There is also an option on the ballot for people to write in their own ideas for the new name. “Right now it looks like we are going to get a lot of write-ins which will add to the time it takes to count and record the votes,” Brink said. The tallied results will be pre sented to the City Council on Oct. 16. The City Council will make the final decision on the new name for the plaza. “The City Council could make the decision as early as Oct. 16, if they decide to take action at that meeting,” Brink said. “But we aren’t planning to make the offi cial announcement until the Grand Reopening Celebration.” All construction on the street is expected to be completed by Nov. 1. The only major construction unfinished at this time is the brickwork around the plaza, said Bud DeSantis, project manager. “We are concentrating on the brickwork that is left in the inter section on Broadway,” DeSantis said. “We still have the sunburst pattern to install in the plaza and then in the street. Brickwork is the major item left, the rest is just gen eral cleanup.” Traffic signals and street lights still need to be installed on 8th Avenue and 10th Avenue, and trees still need to planted. “It’s going to look like it’s all done before [Nov. 1] but we need curing time for the brickwork be fore we turn traffic loose on it,” DeSantis said. “But we will be ready in time for the reopening.” The reopening celebration is scheduled for Nov. 1 and will in clude activities such as ribbon cuttings, speeches and a dance in the evening. “It’s just going to be like a mini festival,” Brink said. —1 versreen A yewear _J 369 Oakway Center 485-8602 Hours: M-F 9-5 Sat-Sun Closed complete eyeglasses Includes frames, lenses, also prescription sunglasses choose from 1500 frames Come in For FREE Frame Adjustment Bring in this ad to receive $20 off frames and lensesy KATEE GOLF CLUB (fatf at O* "pbaat College Students - 1/2 Price Exp. 10-30-96 1-800-452-6376 KENWOOD KRO10CT7 • AM/FM mOTIAl TONER Auto Rev, Cassette •Clock • 4 Speaker Output • 4 Pre-Amp Output Now— QKflternftfo MTf520 • 2-Way Speakers 525" Car Coaxials •Handles 75 Watts • Poly/Lam Cone •Reg. $169.95 Now UUctA-LcL±l $98 y^JILPINE. 35T3e Car Power Amplifier S1412 ^ ^ockftxdfbsqote 12" Car Subwoofer •120-250 Watts Now • Speaker/RCA Inputs A •Reg. $129.95 Now- 3/0 ALPINE SPC1320 525” 2 WAY SPEAKERS NOW-469 PAIR PIONEER TSW202F 8n FREE-AIR SUBWOOFER QNLY-469 EACH KENWOOD KRC12 HIGH POWER CASSETTE AUTO REV.4129 KENWOOD KDC2006 m/m CD PLAYER NOW -4259 I ALPINE I THIS WEEKEND HEAR 3400 WATTS OP POWER DON'T MISS THE ALPINE JAMMIN' RAM TRUCK AT OUR VALLEY RIVER STORE OCT. 5TH & 6TH FROM 1 TO 6PM HEAR AND FEEL SOME OF THE MOST AWESOME POWER ON THE ROAD!
