making strides toward
reaching its goals

Rebuilding is a multi-year com
mitment. Just ask Cathy Nelson,
head coach of the Oregon volley
ball team.
After taking over the program
one year ago, Nelson has wit
nessed her team put all its effort
into a season that only produced
an 8-21 record. Although one win
in the Pacific-10 Conference was
tough to swallow, Nelson knows
her team came away with a lot.
“Hopefully, the team gained
some confidence,” she said. “Even
though wins and losses probably
don’t show it, we did make a lot of
progress. We pushed a lot of teams
and came real close to a lot of
matches that we ended up not
winning. Hopefully, the confi
dence carried over from the Pac
10 matches where we played so
much better than we had the year
before."
Nelson believes this will carry
over to this coming season.
“I think their thoughts are more
‘we can compete and we can win
in this conference,’ so I look to
them to be a more confident team
this year,” she said. “I also think
that the fact that we didn’t really
