If you prefer to be indoors, The Jacobs Gallery, located in the Hult Center’s lobby, will be displaying the 1996 Mayor’s Art Show until Oct. 25. The show is a collection of locally produced work in vary ing media selected in honor of the Eugene Celebration. Upcoming Ja cobs Gallery exhibits include the Lane County Metals Group in No vember and December; Head, Shoulders, Knees and Clothes in December and January; The Danceability Project photographs by Edis Jurcys and Carol Yarrow's silver gelatin prints. The Jacobs Gallery and other downtown art and craft galleries open for a special gallery walk on the first Friday of each month. Similar to the popular First Thurs day gallery walk in Portland, but less well-known, First Friday of-, fers the public a chance to make the rounds of local galleries, meet the artists and see what’s going on in Eugene's art scene. Circle of Hands, one of the craft and art galleries that participates in First Friday, shows and sells the work of more than 100 local artists and crafts people. Much of their work is practical art such as cloth ing, pottery, drums, rattles, glass ware and teddy bears. Guske’s work fea tures monotypes and monocol lages using bold colors and mar ginally abstract images. Joyce’s works are also monotypes, using a central theme or line pattern. Also on display will be local metal smith Gary Stanfield’s American Gargoyle Series. Other galleries participating in First Friday include Criterion Gallery, Provenance Gallery, Ku dos and Opus 5. Art critic Fred Crafts leads an organized walk of the galleries on First Friday, but the public is also welcome to just wander the galleries.
