Ya-Ya fans gather at UO bookstore to meet author ■ BOOKSIGNING: Rebecca Wells introduced her second novel charting the Sisterhood escapades By Mark McTyre Sports Editor Ya-ya, there will be a third book added to the Sisterhood. Award-winning novelist Re becca Wells informally an nounced Saturday that she will write another sequel to Little Al tars Everywhere and Divine Se crets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. “My next book will not be a WELLS Ya-Ya book, but the one after my next one will be,” said Wells, at a booksigning at the University Bookstore. “I learned a lot from writing this book [Ya-Ya Sisterhood], and I think I would like for this to sink in for awhile before I revisit it.” Wells’ first novel, Little Altars Everywhere, won the Western States Book Award for Fiction in 1992 and was a Literary Guild Alternate Selection and Editor’s Choice. The jurors for the award, including chair William Kit tredge, applauded the book’s “as tonishing family of voices, potent in its pain, dazzingly brilliant in its stretches and perceptions.” The newly released sequel of fers readers another look into the turbulent, unconventional and '}inn<■ if U-U SISTERHOOD a E 81 C C ft lUis often hilarious lives of the quirky Walker clan of Thornton, La., ac cording to Wells. This time, Wells delves deeper into an in separable and indominate band of four women called the Ya-Yas by telling the story of their child hood in Thornton. Wells is often asked if her two novels follow the pattern of her life. “I’m sorry to say that I wrote this book hoping that I could have a group of friends like these in the book,” Wells said. “But I think whenever you read a book you learn something about the author.” Wells, a Louisiana native, is an actor and playwright as well.
