Bio-Dome’ full of silly
antics, enviro-humor
By Andrew Miyr
Bio-Dom*, a movie directed
by jason Bloom i» playing at the
Ad BPS Cinema World, located
•cross from Valley Rivet Outer
Metro-Goldwyne Mayer
together with 3 Art* Entertain
ment and Weasel Production*
brought together a caat includ
ing Pauly Shore, Steven Bald
win and William Aetberton of
the lata 1980* Val Kilmer film
'Real Genius “
In fact. Aetberton, who in
this movia played the leader of
the group of Bio-Dome scientist
named Dr. Noah Faulkner,
played much the same role as
the earlier movie
The movie's basic story is that
a group of elitist scientist have
designed an ecosystem inside a
greenhouse in the middle of the
desert with the hopes of sustain
ing life for one year while tiving
in harmony with the utopian
like nature they have creeled
Soy beans are the primary
source of protein, and fish waste
is used to fertilize the vegetable
crops
Pauly Shore plays the part of
a junior college, junk food eat
ing. beer guzzling friend of
Steven Baldwin. Shore answers
to Bud and Squirrel Baldwin, in
turn, answers to Doyle
Bud and Doyle, who initially
have a striking resemblance to
Beavts and Butthead, are out
cruising in the desert when they
stumble upon the Bio-Dome, so
Doyle can "drain his lizard."
The doors to the Bio-Dome are
to be locked for one year so the
scientists will not be interrupt
ed. Little do they know they
have recently taken on two new
agents to their experiment, a*
Bud and Doyle found their way
in to use the facilities and are
now trapped in the Bio Dome
Madness ensues anti all of our
society's faults and weaknesses

are played out through the two
antagonists. Dr Faulkner said.
They arm a symbol of every
thing that U wrong with this
world "
Eventually. they turn into the
protagonists, as they save the
Bio-Dome that they destrut ted
trying to impress their trendy
environmentalist girlfriends
who ditched them because they
are so environmentally uncon
scioua.
A quote that I particularly
found amusing was when one of
the girlfriends asked, “How dears
playing hacky-sack and drink
ing beer help tha environment '"
I enjoyed the crafty set ideas
by Kristi Pratt which included
among other things a sun refine
tor made of reflective beer cases
The music was a combination
of choice selections by musical
director Andrew Cross includ
ing some of my favorites of I
Want Candy „ by Bow Wow
Wow. and Safety Dance, by Men
Without Mats
Other key actors include new
comers Joey Adams. Henry (Jib
son. Kevtn Weal. Patricia Hears!
and Trevor St John
l would recommend this
movie for its balance of convey
ing a save it. or lose it" phitos
ophy towards the environment
without preaching to and con
demning the audience for our
current practices concerning the
environment
Moreover, the physical come
dy of Baldwin and Shore was
definitely Wurth the adrnis«ron
amt.
