EMU. The proposed bMl I’ub Would offer university students a safer iltcrnative to
other drinking establishments in the area
"We are offering students a choice which they did not have hefote. A choice of
sck iiliiation rather than intoxication," said /ac hary Kelton, ASl O Vice President.
I he need for a safe alternative is well-documented. Studies show a high correlation
between intoxication and assaults Many students enjoy the social atmosphere of pubs,
but fear the related problems.
"It is this fear that we want to address,” said Kelton "All students want to have fun
without worry ing about possible dangerous situations ”
In order to promote the safety ol the puh, ASt (' has come up with sevi 11| w e, t
ensure that the atmosphere is fun, relaxing and safe environment for students. No

"We need to stress the idea that when people choose to drink, they need to drink
responsibly," said Kelton. lie noted that all the student profits from the proposed pub
will go to promoting responsible drinking and alcohol awareness or responsible drink
