Rabin’s death touches Jewish faith and faith in humanity, peace T hen* is nothing I tan say about the murder of Yitzhak Rabin thot has not already bwn over whelmingly analyzed bv the fervent journalistic community, yet we are drawn to read and reread them We have read repeatedly of our own shock, horror, anger and dismay that the lender of the Jewish state is dead, that his murder by a fellow Jew leaves a lump in our throats, that the murderer's attribution of the responsibility of the mur der to G-d makes us sick We have seen reiterated our fears for the peace prix ess, the questions of the shift of power and the hope for continued sta bility in the Middle East We have been compelled to seek out again and again the words that echo our despair, that reach to the heart of our disillusionment and ai he of our loss, We have heard what we already know to he the inescapable truth: Jew has killed Jew, and the myth that we have built a nation on an COMMENTARY x tlR:^ IM iMl* incomparable moral foundation has died with him We have asked the questions that are again pint mi before us flow could we let this hapjwm’ How did we let ourselves Ims ome so divided tfiat we could m cept a vicious murder before the sane titv of human life’ How could a murder have been the result of 100.000 peo ple i ailing for peat e ’ 't et. we have breathed a sigh of relief, too, with the knowl edge that it was a Jew who was killed Ironic ally, we an* calmed hv the fa< t that the murderer was lewish also not Arab We are pacified by the fat t that war will not be the response to this event We are thankful that nationalistic: revenge is not the taste in our mouths Instead we renew our commitment to the peace prot ess And we have wept with eat h other and with the world at the LETTERS Fire with fire As someone who hiis worked with Zachary Kelton and the AM :() i can say this of him: I in is an eloquent speaker So smooth are his words that he could charm the rattle from a rattlesnake Then he could con vince it to bite itself In his letter {ODE. Nov H), Zach claims that the money raised from a possible micro brew would go to ASUO pro grams that raise awareness on campus of alcohol abuse. Why, this makes perfect sense "Come in, sit down, have a drink or two. but remember, if you're going to drink, don't drive." Or how about "Have a sip or two. but remember, alcohol is bad for you." Then order anoth er round Is this the concept of fighting fire with fire' You can go to the KMU, drink your limit, then run over to Ren nie's for u pitcher or two or more To finish off the night von can go 1 m< k to the KMl for a few more before staggering back to your dorm. If that's not enough to deter the establishment from setting up a microbrewery on campus, then here's another How much of the money we are forced to give to ANUO pro grams currently goes to pro grains the majority of students really care about or use? Are any of these programs willing to state how many stu dents are actually involved with them' For instance, how many students actually use Saferide? The money will probably go to all those phone lulls racked up by ASl'O staff i ailing friends and family long distant e on our dime Or the money might lie spent to fund trips to Washington or UC1_A where our representatives have fun at our expense, rather than attending the meetings and reporting back to the ASUO at its weekly meetings. Then they'll raise our student fees to cover the extra costs of running the microbrww . David Kellett History Wake up!
