One-sided
I am writing in response to th«>
articles on student athletes and
violence that have appeared in
the Emerald and the Comnwnla
tar. These articles are totally
one sided reports on the events
that supposedly happened
Some of the facts are true, but
many are false 1 know be< ause
I am a student and a member of
the football team and my name
was used many times through
out these artu lev
What people do or have been
accused of doing in the past
doesn't have to In? what they are
doing now or will do in the
future Seeing how myself and
the other people who have been
slandered in these artic les are in
college working to get a degree,
should give a clue that we are
here to take care of business like
the rest of the college students
Unfortunately, then’ are many
violent acts that happen on this
campus, but they are never
under the same sc rutinv as
when an athlete- is alleged to lie
involved Wttv. after three years,
does this incident have to be
brought up again' If injustices
had occurred, they would have
been prosec uted.
I believe that student athletes
are proses uted with muc h more
effort than other people on this
campus Since we an- so visible
ns athletes, we know that mis
takes will cost us .1 great deal
We have n lot to lose in terms of
athletic s, sc hool and c (immuni
ty respect None of us want to
take a chain e on messing that
up.
Joe Harwood's desc riptions of
us are demeaning in all senses of
the word — "n group of fellow
thugs," "terrori/ung trio," "gang
members.” etc All paint a pic
lure of frightening, nngrv peo
ple. I don't feed that desc ribes
me. I plav football, hut I don't
c arry the mentality I have on the
football field with me at other
times.
Kveryone is entitled to their
own opinions, hut they arc- also
entitled to the truth I would like
this so-called reporter, who has
so many images and stereotypes
of football players, to t.orne and
talk with us I ran promise him
that he doesn’t have to fear any
retaliation because we are intel
ligent and reaper!ful human
beings

the most rampant disregard for
the laws of our country. Subver
sives staged man ties and rallies
questioning our government's
ability to rule Many inti Amer
ican leftists even openly
Opposed our government's posi
tion on Vietnam and civil rights
Legalizing marijuana will
most likely lead to a repent of
this cultural collapse.
To allow a person to dei ide
for themselves whether or not to
use marijuana would only
encourage them not to follow
our government's din isions
about other important issues
It is clear to am dm ent. God
fearing person that this country
already has too little respect for
authority, we cannot afford to
undermine the ability of our
great leaders to shepherd us by
encouraging sui h radicalism
If we are serious about eradi
eating the drug problem, we
need to lot k up all 10 million
pot smokers in this country We
can't afford to send the nn ssage
that drug use is tolerable
To legalize marijuana, that
would be like saving that I am
able to think for myself and
(let ide what is lies! for me Who
should make dm isions about my
life'
I, for one. say these important

than expecting me to think for
