is why I am voting for Jennifer
Williamson and /.ah Kelton
Both have demonstrated to me
and to uil of the students that
attend the University that they
are concerned with how our
school mirrors larger society
and that they are concerned
with women's place in society
Williamson's active involve
ment in women's issues has
made an especially large
impact on me.
Williamson, unlike Scott, has
been involved in a host of
events and programs that
demonstrate her commitment
to creating a campus society
that is a community Jennifer
understands that this kind of a
campus cannot exist if violent
acts occur or if women and
minorities ore underrepresent
ed She has been an intern for
the Feminist Majority Fund and
Foundation in Washington.

active volunteer for both the
ASUO Women's Center and
Saferide. 1 have personally
worked with Jennifer in orga
ni/.mg this year s and last year s
Take Hack the Night marches.
These marches work to make
people aware of the fact that
violent e against women < urt'
everywhere, even on this cam
pus and that violence against
women is a societal issue, not
just a women’s issue Both this
year and last year, it was
Jennifer who got the hall roiling
so that Take Back the Night
would o< cur. Events like Take
Back the Night can occur only
if women, like Jennifer
Williamson, are wholehearted
ly committed to ending vio
lence against women and to
creating a campus community
in which women do not have to
walk the streets or go out on
dates in fear.
Jennifer has also been an
Unwanted Sexual Behaviors
Task Force intern for the past
two years. Her work there has
helped to educate students,
both men and women, about
unwanted sexual behavior and
about what we can do as indi
viduals to stop this problem
All of Jennifer Williamson’s
work at the University ha* into
grated, in some way, a commit
ment to creating a community
on campus and educating stu
dent* about how they can do

I would like to take tonm
time to mention some of the
great n( i omplishments OSPIRG
had Inst term The environmen
tal education group went into
eight schools, including KMt'

care and taught students about
recycling, endangered species
and toxin*. The recycling group
held an educational rally on
campus and was also success
ful in making recycling easier
in the dorms.
OSPIRG also sent two stu
dents to Philadelphia for an
environmental leadership con
ference These students then
came home and held a leader
ship c onference of their own.

of these experiences are invalu
able learning tools that are very
important to the enhancement
of this university l am thankful
that OSPIRG provides a place
fur this type of learning to hap

housing who was unw illing to
consider rehabilitation, whn h
will cost millions less than new
construction. even if
rehabilitation runs over cost
projects by 200 percent
