enced the council's decision Wednesday to reject the ordi
nance. These include:
• Transportation financing recently Ireing identified as
a priority work program task for the budget committee. The
committee's goal is to review the current underfunding of the
transportation program and priorities for addressing the needs.
• The difficultly of predicting what effect a local gas
tax vote would have on any legislative action, although it could
provide a "reason" not to pass any of the transportation financ
ing proposals The legislative leadership is publicly commit
ted to “no new taxes,'' so ac tual prospects for a transportation
funding package have been clouded.
• The Transplan update will include a financial ele
ment with alternatives that will include a regional gas tax and
.1 transportation utility fund, causing a local gas tax to possibly
l»e best delayed at this time
I.vie said that with these and other issues, items other than
the gas tax now have higher priority.
