This weekend's game lias the
Ducks placing everything on the
line to put an exclamation mark
on a great regular s. ason
“They are coming in here with
the Rose Howl on the line," Ore
gon State head coach Jerry Petti
Bone said
The Ducks want to eliminate
the memories of last year's sub
500 record, the loss at Autzen
Stadium to the Beavers and the
dreaded option that has caused
so much pain for the defense,
"That 's one of the advantages
that Oregon State has in the con
ference. ' Oregon head coach
Rich Bnxtks said, trying to down
play the possible problems the
Ducks might have when facing
Oregon State's third-ranked rush
ing wishbone offense.
TRADITION

Freedom Bowl in 1 «»<«>, the Ducks went into the
l BO l Civil War with a dismal 3-7 rec ord, but faced
a young Beaver team that, under new coach jerry
Pettibone. was 0-10. Comprised of over half fresh
men and sophomores, the Beavers came to Aulzen
and handed the Ducks a surprise 14 3 loss, hold
ing them to just 208 yards and giving Pettibone the
first of his two career wins against the Ducks
Pettibone got that second win last year, when
the high snap resulted in a sac k of Thompson and
an Oregon turnover on its own 24 yard line w ith
3:50 remaining in the game. Six plays later, the
Beavers look the lead 15-12 on Rahim Muham
mad's two-point conversion, and shut the Ducks
down for the win.
The history is there The Ducks and the Beavers
have had some hard-fought games, a few blow
outs and one or two sloppy contests, but all were
ru b with tradition With the Duc ks holding a 47
40-U) lend ccver the Beavers, the two teams play
their flflth Civil War game on Saturday at Parker
Stadium, as Pettibono looks fur a third victory
against Oregon in four games, and Brooks looks to
clinch his first ever Rose Bowl
