Cross country teams host Jeff Drenth Memorial

With the women's cross country team c oming off two
weeks of rest, and the men's team coming off of » throe
week break, the two teams host the |eff Drouth Memori
al at Alton Baker Park on Sunday
The women fell from eighth to ninth in this week's
poll due to the break but. according to coach Tom
ffeinonen. have a good opportunity in the Drenth meet.
"This is a great chanc e for us to meet the No. 1 team."
Heinonen said. "It would be great for us to be able to
beat them, and it would certainly help us down the
road."
Heinonon has 17 runners competing Sunday against
seventh-ranked Colorado and top-ranked Arkansas,
including sophomore Milana Glusm, who placed sec
ond overall at the Nike Invitational on Oct t and third
overall at the Drenth meet last year
'For us to heat them, we've got to have some real up
front strength to make up for their strength (and) pack
running," Heinonen said
"I think there will l* a lot of people that will lie cheer
ing for Oregon and I'm sure that will make a difference."
said true freshman Rosy Gardner, who was the fourth
Duck to cross the finish line at the Nike meet.
After only a little over a week of practice, the men took
fifth placet at the Mountain West Classic. Coach Bill
Dellinger is confident that three weeks of practice has
strengthened the team
"The whole group lias looked good the last throe weeks."
Dellinger said. "We needed more timo in preparation...
hopefully. we've made prugross. We're going to I to Inti ter
prepared for competition."
The men are led by junior Rick Cantwell and sopho
more Tracy Hollister. According to Dellinger, the two
have stepped up o level since last season.
"They are much better runners than they were last vear,"
Dellinger said of the duo who improved over SO seconds
from last year's Mountain West Classic.
