Exploration of Eugene leads to discoveries
[Exploration is necessary for dis
covery to occur I learned this in
my geography class called
"Exploration and Discovery."
In class we discussed
whether there are still places left to
explore With all the maps and satel
lites, you wouldn't think it possible
But I have found a place where dis
covery is still possible - Eugene
There is so much to discover in
Eugene. Whether you find some
where to take a hike or stumble upon
an unknown restaurant, you are dis
covering. But the key to discovering
new places is exploration
When I was a freshman I had to
learn my way around Eugene I need
ed to understand the city's layout
Which way was north? Just where is
Target, and how do you get there?
When I figured out Eugene and
knew the boundaries between south
and north, east and west. I under
stood why I had to know. I had
TRISTA
NOEL
explored Eugene
so I could discover
its special places
When you don’t
need to pay atten
tion to all the street
names and signs to
get around, it’s
possible to notice
everything around
you. It's no longer
space you need to
navioate it is
space for you to discover.
This concept applies to finding
Eugene's entertainment After explor
ing Eugene, discovering where to see
a play, a concert or a movie will come
naturally. When you explore a city,
you'll discover where the action is,
where the shopping is. and where it is
you want to go.
The key to having fun in this town is
to explore. Explore Eugene and you
will discover.
Dn a completely different subject,
I would like to invite anyone who
reads the Emerald to write lor
the Emerald, especially lor the
Rhythm and Reviews section.
There are too many bands, too
many COs, too many anythings to
review If you don't like what you
read, do something about it Call with
suggestions or to tell me you're going
to write that story you've always want
ed to see in the paper.
By the way, while you still have a
chance, go get an ice cream
sandwich from Rusty's
Handbuitt Sandwiches stand at
the street faire. You choose an ice
cream flavor, which is then sand
wiched by chocolate-oatmeal cookies.
Then it's all dipped in warm choco
late These treats are divine.
