    Correct term
Regarding the rocrnl article by
Lin Sakiccia (ODE. Aug '.I). Lin
neglected to realize the corm t
term for "anti-abortion” advo
cates is actually pro-life. Pro-life
advocate* do not like to be
called anti-abortion any motr
than pro-choice advocate* like
to be called anti-life.
It i* not that we deny being
anti-abortion but wo like the
emphasis to be on the fact that
we truly believe we an* protect
ing the lives of children who are
defenseless In the same way,
the pro-choice movement is not
about being pro-abortion; it is
about allowing women the right
to choose the destiny of their
own bodies without any other
individual telling them what
they can and can't do.
i know. I know Now you are
going to tell me that Paul Mill
(the self-admitted gunman) is
not pro-life. Well, you are cor
rect; he seems to have missed
the boat on the concept behind
the pro-life movement Most
people who use the terms anti
life, anti-choice, or anti-abortion
really don't understand the
issue. But then again, i don't
think most people on both sides
of the issue really understand
the other side
This seems to la- a lot of noise
over a simple name and typical
ly I tend not to care about names
or labels. If Salciccia’s article
had been an opinion column, I
would have probably just
ignored it. However, it was on
the front page and appeared to
bo an information article. Infor
mation articles are supposed to
report, not argue I have found
from experience that people
who use terms like anti-abortion
arts using it in a derogatory man
ner I’m sure this is not the case
this time, but 1 would just feel
bettor if the Enwrald editorial
staff would keep in mind the
appropriate lal>el for all groups

No minority
For years, we’ve seen the
advancement of homosexuality
from an immoral, illegal art to a
behavior demanding minority
stntus anti fore <*d acceptance In
society If homosexuality is tru
ly a minority, why must there !»•
an exemption clause for church
es and people of faith? Do other
minorities require exemptions
so they ilo not trample the Con
stitutional rights of others7 No!
What makes homosexuality
different from true minorities?
First, homosexuality is not
unchangeable like race, gender,
national origin If it were, why
have thousands left the lifestyle?
And what aisiut bisexuals'' How
can you have it both wavs7
Second, contrary to other
minorities, homosexuality
requires an act of the will to par
ticipate. A person must decide
to engage in the m t or not
Thinking about stealing docs not
make someone a thief Acting
out those thoughts make a per
sim a thief.
To ward off arguments that
religion is an act of the will, our
Founding Fathers directly pro
tected religious freedom in the
Bill of Rights Thin understood
government must not dictate
over the church To have a "free
country," the Founding Fathers
knew society had to willingly
govern themselves A govern
ment like ours will only prosper
if the the people are a virtuous
and moral people willing to
restrain themselves from
immoral and illegal acts
Homosexuality must disguise
itself as « minority in order to
force the public to ai i ept and
affirm their unmoral behavior
Tolerating lawful sexual prai -
tiies in privacy is one thing:
affirmation is a whole different
story.

Misinformation
Your Aug -1 article on the so

Unsafe lifestyle
‘You can't legislate morality
\ i ,ic in phrase we’\i i-.-- u t
But at tuaily, we legislate moral
ity ail the lime Webster’s
defines "moral'' as relating to
principles of right or wrong in
behavior People can’t live
together without a standard id
right and wrong. whi< It by defi
nition, is "morality "
I’he question today is whose
morality will prevail in law the
Founding Fathers' morality that
made thin country great. or th««
now morality of the left causing
the moral docline of America.
Society historically has placed
parameters around unhealthy or
destructive behaviors; laws
against recreational drug use,
sexually transmitted disease
partners trm ked (except AIDS),
communicable disease quaran
tined to prolix t the uninfected.
However, liberal left-wing
clout and intimidation Inis
exempted the homosexual
lifestyle. Studies show between
1 and I percent of America is
homosexual, yet the U S Cen
ters lor Disease Control and I’re
vontlon studies show homosex
uals to be responsible for 50
percent of all cases of syphilis,
gonorrhea of the throat and
intestinal infer lions Addition
ally, homosexuals are 5,000
times more likely to conlrat I
AIDS and have a 20-50 times
gi• atet chanca o| contracting
hepatitis It than heterosexuals
The liberal left's agenda lias
been to legitimize homosexual
behavior although homosexual!
tv has proven to be unsafe,
unhealthy and unwise To
equate homosexuality with
moral goodness is irrational
Looking lia< k to the prim iples
espoused by our Founding
Father-., we now realize tIn-1r
wisdom on these matters
If you want to put an end to
this madness, vote yes for Ballot
Measure I t, the Minority Status
