AAA/Interdisciplinary/Music (Two Year Seat)
JAMES BOYD
In the past year, those attending the University
of Oregon have witnessed our student government
become increasingly facuonalized Multicultural
and gender issues have become devisive topics in
campus politics 1! the ASUO wishes to find suc
cess in future endeavors, a new spirit of unity
between government officials, campus leaders, and
the university administration must be found
As a music major I feel that the arts cornmu
mty on campus has been apathetic m regards to
involvement with university student government 1
feel that my background in the arts and in the past
[xaiitieal positions could bring new perspective to
the academic senate'
As a final concern, I feel that communication
between student government, student groups and
the university populous at large is inadequate I
advocate increased and improved public relations
through the establishment of programs such as the
President's Advisory Council If the students of this
university are provided with opportunities to voice
their concerns to government officials, the produc
tivity of campus programs will undoubtedly
increase
I wish to promote the stature of the University
of Oregon in any way possible Therefore 1 urge
you to cast your vote in my favor Vote for James
Boyd for Academic Senate position number twelve

JOSHUA SCHAFER
I decided to fun for ASUO Senate for a number
of different reasons Undeniably, ASUO, in it's cur
rent state, is undergoing a number of problems
Whether the problem rears it's head in the form of
politics of racial inequality, the real problem facing
ASUO on this campus is one of misrepresentation
Each student on our campus deserves equal
representation in the student governing body
Racial inequity becomes a problem when a group
on campus feels, (and m the past) justifiably so, that
they haven't enough to say in our governing organi
zation This carries over to the groups representing
different political organizations
My quest for this representation is not one of
having one member of ASuo matching each individ
ual group on campus, but rather, electing some >ne
on the basis of the knowledge and willingness to lis
ten to the pleas from all organizations on campus
that that individual possess I feel 1 could fulfill that
duty 1 will always be eager to listen, at all times,
our very diverse students and represent thier views
equally to the best of my ability
