EMU BOARD (1-Year)
DESCRIPTION: The EMU Board is a 15
member committee consisting of students,
faculty, and EMU staff personnel. It is
responsible for making general policy deci
sions and long-range plans for all aspects of
the operation of the Erb Memorial Union
(EMU). The Board is responsible for allocat
ing a $3.7 million budget to programs and
service areas and for allocating space in the
200,000 square-foot facility. The Board, of
which students comprise the majority, also
advises staff in the management and admin
istration of the EMU.

I have been involved with student government
lor the past three years This year I served as the
EMU House Committee Chair where I was respon
sible lor organizing student programs and ensuring
students' input on diverse university issues was

NICOLE EDWARDS
After working in the EMU for almost a year I've
realized something about this student union- - It's a
really great place to be It's almost impossible to
walk through here without seeing at least one
familiar face For some, it's like their home away
from heme
Working in the Fishbowl and the Administra
tive Office has given me the opportunity to learn
how the EMU functions Because I do spend so
much of my time here, I am very familiar with the
|>*op!e and services that create our EMU For this
reason I feel 1 would be a beneficial member of the
EMU Board
Currently 1 deal with students' problems and
praises of the EMU on a daily basis Therefore, I
• uld start as an EMIJ Board with first-hand know!

I truly believe that the University of Oregon
wouldn't be what it is today without the great peo
ple and services of the EMU If elected I plan to
maintain the EMU as a positive place for students

OLIVER ORTIZ
As an entering freshman at the University of
Oregon I am concerned with the welfare and
integrity of the university I have been involved
with student government m the past, club/varsity
sports, and I am currently a scout leader for Boy
Scout Troop 22 Moreover. I am currently working
as a manager of rental properties for Robert E
Nordyke Enterprises
Involvement is something I take very literally,
you either are involved or you are im The EMU
Board will allow me to work with the university
students and community This involvement is
something that 1 enjoy very much
1 would appreciate the opportunity to work and
represent the university and the students as a board

CODY JOHNSON
1 am running for EMIJ Board because I feel 1
have what it takes to get the job done appropriately
and efficiently I have recieved a lot from the uni
versity and 1 just want to give back to such an
excellent institution
My dependant strenghts are focussed on lead
ership and communication 1 have also learned
budgeting skills 1 pride myself on my honesty and
my sincerity, and the fact that I put forth all my
effort into everything that Ldo 1 am certain that 1
would make a good board member
The activities that 1 am currently involved in
include the Student Orientation Staff. Alpha Phi
Omega ( National Coed Service Fraternity). campus
tour guide, dorm president, FIG leader, and Alpha
lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma ( honors society)^ 1 am
hoping to add EMU Board to this list to further my
efforts to keep the University of Oregon as one of
the finest institutions, both academically and
socially, in the nation
