Snavely’s victory paces Duck golf to fifth place

The Oregon men's golf team was unable
to defend its team title nt the Western Inter
collegiate Golf Toumanumt, but junior Tud
Suavely made sure the individual title
stayed with the Ducks.
Suavely shot a final round of 71 Tues
day to finish the three-round, two-day tour
nament at 210. two shots (letter than Ore
gon State's (.1iarli>s Kingsimker ami Kansas'

One year after winning the team title
at the tournament in Santa Cruz. Calif., the
Ducks finished fifth with a team total of
HH.'l, only six shots behind tournament

tournament, opening slow before coining

during the first round of the tournament,

However, every Oregon player shot
worse in the final round than they did in
the second round, and the Ducks were
forced to settle for fifth place.
Snavely's win was his first ever in col
lege and culminates a recent hot streak that
has seen him finish in the Top JO at four
of the Ducks' last five tournaments The
junior from Portland finished sec und two
weeks ago at the Southwestern Intercol
legiate
Snavely opened the tournament two
shots behind Joe Ac ostn of Fresno State,
who shot tiH in the first murid, but he took
the lead for good with his se< ond-round
