Hockey looks for first win at home
Thu Oregon ho< key loam is hoping to pick up its
first two victories of the young season when it con
tinues its home stand this weekend against visiting
Puget Sound.
last week, the Ducks were a very offensive team,
si ormg six goals after eight assists against Wash
ington The Ducks' downfall came from their lack
of covering players and goaltending. The Huskies
scored seven goals, but only one came on a power
play opportunity.
"In our first game, people seemed to be nervous
and afraid to help out on defense because they didn't
want to get blamed, saiil Mark Adams, a junior
transfer from the Air Force Academy. Adams si ored
three goals in the two games for the Ducks.
"As a team for the first week, we were OK, "
Oregon head coach Paul Ruthurford said Ins team
gave a solid effort and keyed in on hockey but still
has room for improvement.
"We need to play much stronger at our end."
Ruthurford said. "We need to capitalize on oppor
tunities, communicate and support each other
more.”
This is the first year Puget Sound lias organized
a hockey team, so the Ducks are hoping to take it to
them.
Face-off for the first game is at 4:45 p m Satur
day, followed by the second game at 11 a in Sun
day at Line County Ice Arena

Oregon's record in dual meets drop[>ed to 4-4 after

The Oregon women's tennis team opens its sea
son today at the Pacific-10 Conference Indoor tour
nament. which runs through Sunday. The Ducks
are c oming off a sensational 24-5 season last year
— the best in school history.
Oregon returns a lot of talent from last year's team.
But with only eight players on the scpiud, depth is
a question. Six letter winners return for the Ducks,
including seniors Cynthia Armstrong, Krissy Barg
er and co-captains Jackie DeFord and Sherry Fair
grieve. Also returning are sophomore Wise Adams
and junior Kara Yoshida, who won 25 and 18 match
es respectively last year.
