Bigwig's Julie Reyes and Chris Scholl brought their heavy pop to John Henry’s Tuesday, as always
Jake Berg was on hand to witness the deth and destruction and to drink lots o beer
Bigwig conscience shopping
By Jake Berg
Oregon Daily EmertM
Jim Bausch was standing on
stage at John Henry’s Tuesday
nigJit. considering suing the
i ompany that made his guitar
strings
The I) string had just broke
halfway through Bigwig's first
song, and its replacement was
actually an A string, causing
frustration and constant tuning
Bausch even had to quickly
abort Elvis' "Suspicious
Minds," the second song, just
to tune up.
Bausch then explained to the
crowd that this wasn't a normal
occurrence for the band.
Then again. Bigwig, playing
John Henry's for the sixth time
and tJieir seventh gig overall,
have only been together a cou
ple of months, not really long
enough to establish a tradition
And the current version
won't even be together that
much longer Chris Schulz, the
bass guitarist, will he moving
to New York tJiis weekend,
leaving Bausch, singer Julie

Keyes and drummer |on St

guitarist
Prior to Scholz' departure,
however, the hand established
itself by recording a 4,ri with
Eugene's Pro-Arts that should
f>e out by March
Bigwig are still all smiles,
though The group apparently
hasn't forgotten now to have
fun with its music, as all of the
members have an easier time
playing their parts than they do
from keeping smiles off of their
faces or from making jokes
Bausch says that in addition
to looking for a boss guitarist,
the band is also shopping for a
new conscience. St Clair says
Bigwig is seeking an endorse
nient from Hlil/ Weinhard One
of tint band's main originals is
the "KVVVA I'lli*me Song
Si hoi/ says they ( rented Keves
an "absolutely perfect" lend
singer — by growing her in an
incubator
This kind of humor doesn't
take a wav from the hand's mu
sin. though, as Keyes presence
on stage of throaty vocals, wild
arm movements and facial ex
pressions nearly steal Bigwigs
shows.
Although Bigwig's musii
probably won't be starting
rnosli pits anytime soon, it is
still heavy enough to bang your
head, but poppy enough, still,
to get fans groovin' on the
dance floor
Hausch desi rihes the music
with a quote borrowed from

sounds like two oranges luting
nailed together
Musical influence and quotes
apparently are not the only
things Higyvig got from K K M
their humor is there as well.
