SOUND OFF FORKED ★ GROUP Sage LABEL Will Records eviewing material like this is difficult. ially when I'm writing reviews for the students on this campus Her*’ lies the problem For the most part. Forked is an ini redi hiy boring mix of psychedelii and modern rock For the stu dents who arc into optical. i-atr In music, this CD is about as hook less as they come For people who prefer mellow, pretty music. Forked is a tad too abra sive However, for musn fans who enjoy doing the "hippy dance" where they drift into their own arm-flailing, circle turning world (which I believe is some where around 7T> percent of the population of Eugene), this album is right up their alloy. This band, from Seattle, is a very, very poor man's mix of Primus and Jane's Addiction Tito bass lines set the pac e for Sage's music and the other instruments follow the lead Otu e the singer's von e joins the mix w hich is usually alhiut one to two minutes into the song - it sounds sink iugly liken mellower Pem Fer rell repeating Iwsically the same lines over and over. A few songs like "Freddy" and "Forked" stand out. but that's only liecauae the rest of the son^s fall flat on their dull fares As Iwid as this alburn sounds to me, it is probably turned out exactly like the members of Sage wanted it to 1 must say. these guys are much I letter live and are the favorite opening band of (oi ls Mon, but I'm reviewing this album, not their live show Mavlie they should have released a live (.1) If you're planning a "love-in" sown. this < 1) miII he the hit of the party, not to mention a pop ular item at the local record stores But if you're looking tor good muse pass this one up - DAVE CHARBONNEAU THE DAY... ★ ARTIST Andrew Dice Clay LABEL American ver situ o the early 1980s release of Eddie Murphy's first stand-up movie, Drliri mis. all similar humor has paled in comparison. The songs on Belt can flow together or stand alone. Harder and more creative than The Posies LUNGFISH: Rainbows From Atoms (Dt9Chord) 3 1/2 stars. Also trom D.C, also makes great punk/ pop. Difference from Edsel is that this band uses less distortion, and is more right m your face. Straight-ahead music matched with beautiful poetic lyrics that’ll tug at your heart while collapsing your eardrums PEGBOY: Fore (Quater stick)- 3 1/2 stars. This four song EP hits hard, courtesy of Steve Albim’s production and bass work. ARCHERS OF LOAF: Icky Mettle (Alias)- 2 1/2 stars. That Chapel Hill thing done pretty well. NOT SO HOT PICKS SMALL 23: True Zero Hook (Alias)- 1 star. That Chapel Hid thing done not so well. M.I.R.V.: Cosmodrome (Prawn Song/ Mammoth)-1 1/2 stars. Supposed to be a concept album but falls short Might be better with the com ic book that comes with it. but I didn’t get one. VARIOUS ARTISTS: The Bevis and Butt-head Experi ence (Geffen)-1/2 stars. Some of the music is OK, but BAB becomes excruciatingly painful to listen. FUTURE: New goodies form Jawbox, Meat Puppets. Vanilla Ice (ugh, he's discov ered blunts; I kid you not), and Unsane. Arriving in the not-too distant future will be releases from Pavement, Shonen Knife, Prong and Soundgarden. - SCOTT DREW Music Director KWVA L J ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Wall Disney ('o. and a TV game show producer settled a SHOO,000 damage award in a lawsuit over who came up with the idea for the 1992 flit movie Honev.
