    Ducks lose their shot
of upsetting Trojans

The Oregon men's basketball
loam stayed close to USC the
entire game Saturday and even
had a lead midway through the
second half, hut the Trojan* ran
away at the end for a 77-69 win
at the Sports Arena in l.os Ange
les.
The loss dropped the Docks to
0-2 in the Pacific-10 Conference
and 4-7 overall.
Oregon had its opportunities
Saturday but stumbled when it
counted most. The Ducks went
on a 13-2 run in the second half
to take a 48-46 lend. Shortly after
that, the Trojans hit three straight
three-pointers, and USC's lead
was back to nine.
Oregon still had its chances but
failed to cash in. It looked as if
the Trojans had sealed the victo
ry until Claude (iroen was called
for u technical foul US(. led only
70-63. but Orlando Williams
missed both free throws
Williams led all scorers with
21 points but continued to strug
gle from his usual comfort zone,
the three-point arc Williams hit
a three for Oregon's first basket
of the game and then missed his

freshmen and is supposed to
take effect in August

The Ducks struggled on offense

lucky to fie down by only eight at
halftime Oregon shot 32 fieri ent
in the half and finished the game
hitting only 41 percent of its
shots. The Ducks also had near
ly twice as many turnovers (13)
as assists (7).
The Ducks' other hig setback
Saturday was their inability to
box out on defense USC outre
hounded Oregon 35-2S and killed
the Ducks with offensive
rebounds In one stretch, the Tro
jans scored tfins- straight baskets
on offensive boards.
Besides Williams, forwards |eff
Potter and Damon Rimvon were
the only two Ducks in double fig
ures, both finishing with 10
points.
