    Women’s Center in transition
By Mandy Baucum
Two temporary positions in
the Women's Center have been
extended until the end of the
school year ns part of a complete
reorganizing of the center
The part-time women's advo
cate and receptionist positions
will continue the center's liare
bones structure until a perma
nent one can fie set up.
Right now. the positions are
the only ones in the Women's
Center. The only services still
provided are Safende. advocacy,
and resource and referral
"What we're going through
now is a transition period." said
Cheryl Hunter. ASUO executive
coordinator
As a result «jf few qualified
iipplii ants at the end of spring
term, the < enter dosed for the
summer. Hunter said When the
school year started, center offi
cials decided it needed to be
reorganized. she said
The lad of applicants was a
factor center officials considered
when they decided to reorga
nize.
"It was sort of the crisis that
precipitated the whole process."
Hunter said
So the hare-hones structure
was instituted for four months
until a new structure could be
decided upon
However, the Women's (enter
review committee had not made
anv decisions by January and
agreed tc> keep ih*' temporary
structure until the end of this
year
Hunter, who sits on the com
mittee. said the committee
de< idetl to extend the positions
Ih» ause it needed more time to
plan the r enter's reorganization.
"So we were going to slop
back and come up with a com
pletely different angle." Hunter
said
Hunter said the committee
should have a permanent strut
lure in plate for next year's
Women's Center, but right now
is seeking more diverse mem
bers for the committee before it
begins the dm ision making
process
