    1. The Muffs - The Muffs: Easily the
best album of the year Hugo hooks and
great vocals. Just your basic no B.S.. blow
the roof off the dump, pop punk work of
art. And it was a debut!
2. Nirvana - In Utero No sophomore
slump here. Seattle's best was able to
stick to their guns and still manage to put
out a remarkablo, powerful album. Long
live Kurt and Courtney!
3. Flop * Whenever You're Ready:
Seattle's second-best band. Masters at
creating the most catchy sounding songs
since John Lennon died. And I moan
every song.
4. Rocket From The Crypt - Circa:
Now: Distortion and great riffs. Solid
album from start to finish.
9. Jolly Mon • Sailing: Eugene's finest.
If you still don't have this, you suck. The
major labels beckon.
6. Everclear - Nervous and Weird
(EP): "Elektra Made Me Do It.” is the
song of the year. Portland's best band
(Jolly Mon’s still from Eugene).
7. Zipgun - Baltimore Seattle's third
bust bond. Straight ahead, old-style, punk
rock.
8. The Flaming Lips - Transmissions
From the Satellite Heart: Weird, but
catchy as hell and fun to listen to with
headphones.
9. R.E.M. - Automatic. For The People
After years of despising these guys, I
finally realized what I'd Iwon missing.
10. The Reverend Horton Heat • The
Full-Custom Gospel Sounds of...: The
feel-good rockabilly album of the year.
- Dave Charbonneau
1. Various artiats — Judgment Night
Soundtrack: Who borrowed this CD from
me? Please return it as soon as possible
— I miss it.
2. Smashing Pumpkins — Siamese
Dream: After listening to this album, all
Smashing Pumpkins fans were quite
happy that Billy Corgan made it through
his nervous breakdown.
3. Jolly Mon — Sailing: Not only is
this a great album by a great local group
of great local guys, it also means that
now that Jolly Mon is actually on a CD, 1
don't have to fight through fuwiness of
noise on their old demo tapes to under
stand what Carey Rich is singing.
4. White Zombie — La Sexorcisto
Devil Music Vol. 1 This album has been
out longer than a year, hut most people
didn't buy it until 199T
5. Nirvana — In Vtero Not as good as
Bleach, but letter than Nevermind, so I’d
still pay money io see Kurt Cobain beat
the crap out of Eddie Vedder.
6. Various artists — Last Action Hero
Soundtrack More Seattle stuff in the
form of two quality songs from Alice in
Cl’.ains. in addition to a nice mis of
Megadeth. Anthrax, Cypress Hill and
Fishbone. (And the movie wasn't as bad
as everybody said ... really.)
7. Primus — Pork Soda: This doesn't
taste as good as their Sailing the Seas of
Cheese or Frizzle Fry. but it’s a better fla
vor than most of the other crap that came
out lost year.
8. Porno for Pyros —Porno for Pyros:
Neatest name,
9. Anthrax — Sound of White Noise:
Overall, kinds lame, but a few excellent
songs save this album from sinking to
lackyl's level.
10. Scorpion* — Face the Heat: Hey,
they made me do it I've never even
heard the album
- Jake Berg
1. Pearl Jam — vs.: Two words. Eddie
Vedder.
2. Nirvana — In Ulero. Same songs as
Nevermind — different lyrics.
3. Haler — Haler Creative and original
music that sounds nothing like
Soundgarden.
4. Police — Message In A Bax: You can
never listen to too much of the Police.
3. U2 — Zooropa: That wacky Bono
has lost his mind, but the bend has new
life.
6. Living Colour — Slain: They just
keep getting better and better.
7. Tripping Daisy — Bill: Still a little
raw, but wow, what a debut!
8. Midnight Oil — Earth, Sun, and
Moon Anti-business as usual.

Continued from Page 10
docs more than just keep a
belli With only two members
in the band and no bass. Plouf
is able to create not only
rhythms, but with his unique
percussion style, he can nearly
create riffs and hooks which
are usually left up to the gui
tari st.
On the song "Spitfire," Plouf
opens the song with a catchy
drum intro that pops up
throughout the songs. Five
minutes later, you find your
brain pounding with that same
drum part just like you would
with a great guitar intro to an
old AC/DC song.
The song "Dangle" is one of
the many songs that features
Gates' song-writing ability The
song is by all definitions a love
song; however, the song is not
in the least bit cheesy. anti the
quick pace of the song keeps
the listener from slipping into
dreamland
"Uneasy" combines both
artists' talents into a nice pop
song with great drums and
good harmonies by dates
The rest of the album wavers
somewhere in between nearly
ballad-like songs and toe-tap
ping punk pop
However, if you're looking
for something to muke you get
up and dance. Monos may fall
a little flat
The Spinanes are a good
band, make no mistake about
that, but three reviews in Spin
is a little much
