    UNIVERSITY UPDATE
• Two University students,
chosen from candidates across
the nation, have received schol
arships after their fraternity
chapter nominated them.
Sigma Phi Epsilon members
Kyle Cano, a chemistry major,
and Eric Johnston, ait English
major, were chosen ns recipients
of the Zollinger Scholar awards,
which are scholarships given to
28 individuals nationwide on
the basis of academic, achieve
ment and activity within the
chapter and on campus.
Zollinger Scholar winners
receive a scholarship for their
junior year, and if a 2.5 GPA is
maintained, another scholarship
is awarded for their senior year.
As a senior, Gano was award
ed 5400, and johnston. a junior,
received $250.
• The University Lambda Chi
Alpha chapter collected H85
pounds of food in one day last
term as part of the largest single
day fraternity philanthropic, pro
jec.t ever completed.
'■Brothers Feeding Others''
was the theme of the 1993 North
American Food Drive, which
involved more than 8,000 mem
bers and 150 chapters from Que
bec to California.
The University chapter’s con
tributions helped the organiza
tion net a total of 227.646

on topics ranging from history,

The five winners competed on
separate teams, hut were select
ed for the regional competition
because they answered the
largest percentage of questions

before the winners were select
ed.
