Wright said they are still in the process of
rusearching and developing "the hardware that
will hold the loft at various heights.”
Melby and Wright said the loft will cost about
S4U0 per unit for the wood and $600 per unit for
tin1 metal loft.
In a recent meeting, University Housing decided
to use the funds allocated for bed replacements to
install more lofts in residence hall rooms.
Once the loft system is patented, University
Housing has plans to license and sell the lofts to
other universities. Proceeds will help subsidize
University Housing.
It keeps room and hoard rates low," Wright
said. "It costs over $1.3 million per year for the
routine daily maintenance of the residence halls
and housing is fully self-supporting."
