The ('n il War began in 1894
It was not the grueling battle
between the Yankees and the
Rebs. but the fierce rivalry
between the Aggies of Oregon
Agricultural College and the
Webfoots of Oregon
The football tradition contin
ues on Saturday as Oregon fui es
the Oregon State at Autzen Sta
dium in the Civil War.
The spirit of competition is
alive in Oregon's plans for the
festivities that will mark the
97th battle against Oregon State.
In honor of the Civil War,
commanding generals Myles
Brand of Oregon and John Byrne
of Oregon State will meet in a
civilized brunch hosted by the
President's Associates.
The President's Associates is
a group of alumni and friends
who donate $1,000 or more to
the University. The PA is spon
soring the brunch before the
game at the Barker Stadium
Club.
"We are celebrating the spir
ited competition between IJO
and OSU on the field and also
the complementary roles they
play off the field by providing
Oregonians with superior edu
cational options." said Lele
LeVay, director of general rela
tions for the University Founda
tion.
Preparation for the Civil War
festivities are taking place on
and off campus.
The Oregon Marching Band
has prepared a unique halftime
program for the game Oregon
Marching Band President Katin
Burger said to expect music in
celebration of the 150th
anniversary of the Oregon Trail

a cool jazz version of Home on

Whether the victor is Oregon
or Oregon State, one < an lx* sure
a good time will be bad h) all
when the war is over. Local bar
owners are also making plans
for the Civil War battle
Taylor's College Side Inn is
starting the wartime festivities
with a new band from Portland
Funknot will be playing at Tay

Ron Parker, assistant to the
owner, described the band's
sound as ''semi-disco music
“It should be a great time I'm
looking forward to it," Parker
said.
The music will continue at
Taylor's after the game as reggae
band Universal Language will
take the stage on Saturday
Rennie's Uuuiing is also look

stuff because of the game and
expects his business to double
Does he mind the Oregon State
crowd?
"They are fine," La Branch
said.
La Branch recalls when
Beaver fans celebrated their vic -

over Rennie's entire second
