1993 senior class says goodbye
By Dav* ChartoonnMu
Otgan Oaty £ mmtKS
Now that the bowl hope* of
the Duck* are gone this season,
next season is already in the
hack of the minds of the play
ers, coaches and fans.
Quarterback Danny O'Neil
will be back, as will receiver
Cristin Mr.Lemore. running
hack Ric ky Whittle, light ana
Willy Tate, free safety Chad
Cota, t ornerhack Alex Moiden
and nt eiver Kory Murphy.
The Ducks will definitely
have talent to build on for next
season But they will also lose a
number of players who have
helped reestablish the Oregon
football program.
"The senior class has done a
lot for Oregon football," Oregon
head c oach Rich Brooks said.
"They have played a lot of great
football and seen a lot of ups
and downs What I'd like for
them is to have a great memory
in their final game at Oregon
and get a win over Oregon
State."
Many of tine seniors leaving
the Duck program after this sea
son were here as rcMlshirls when
Oregon went to its first bowl
game in 25 years with 1989’s
Independence Bowl appear
ance.
Many of the seniors, such as
Ernest Jones, Sean Burwell and
Juan Shedrick player! huge roles
in helping the Ducks earn trips
to 199()'s Freedom Bowl and
1992's Independence Bowl
"Going to the bowl games is
my best memory," Jones said
"Also, watching each other
grow into men. A lot of people
don't take the Independence
Bowl seriously, but we took
pride in it. I'll also treasure the
memories from the Freedom
Bowl. When I get out of here.
I'll know I did some things I
wanted to do."
Here's a list of the seniors
who will bo playing in their
final game Saturday against
Oregon State and some of their
accomplishments.
Michael Allison, strong safety
— Allison's claim to fame was
as Oregon's deep snapper on
punts and field goals. Allison
transferred to Oregon after two
years at Oregon Tech.
Romeo Bandison. defensive
end — Bandison was voted sec
ond-team all-conference last
season after finishing second in
tackles among Ducks. Bandison
played half of last season at

nose tai kin and filled in well.
Bandison has had 45 tackles
this season, including two sacks
and three deflected passes.
"Romeo is a talent and at his
size • 6-foot-5. 290 pounds • he
can run a 4.7 in the 40-yard
dash." Brooks said. "He has
been hobbled a bit. but has
played both on the end and at
the nose He's had a good year.”
Kric Barnes, offensive guard
— Barnes didn't join the Ducks
until just before last season. He
played well in a reserve role
until a midseason injury ended
his season. Barnes has played a
limited role for Oregon this sea
son.
Brian Brown, receiver/punt
returner — Brown's big claim to
fame came in 1990 when he
returned a punt HO yards against
Arizona State for a touchdown.
Brown averaged about eight
yards a return over his first two
years as Oregon's No. 1 punt
return man. l.ast season, an
injury in the first game ended
his season. This year. Brown's
season was again shortened
with an injury.
Sean Burwell. tailback —
Burnell had a magnificent
freshman season, rushing for
more than 1,000 yards Hurwell
sustained an injury in iiis sec
ond season and run for only half
of the yardage of the previous
season. Last season, Burwell
split time with Kii ky Whittle
and still managed to gain 822
yards. This season, injuries
have again hampered Burwell's
year as he ran for a little more
than 400 yards this season. This
will be his fourth year in a row
leading the Ducks in rushing.
"Sean may ho the best back
we've had running and catching
the ball since I've been here,"
Brooks said.
Tom Curran, center — Cur
ran was a re ' hirt freshman on
Oregon's 1990 Independence
Bowl team. Curran walked on
as a defensive linenu .> and was
eventually moved to starting
center last season ai I has held
the spot ever since
"Tom Curran i me ol the
good football stories.” Brooks
said "He is u remarkable young
man who walked on to the pro
