Three matches remain in the
Oregon volleyball team's season.
It hopes it has saved the lest for
last.
Hie Ducks, 1-14 in the Pacific
10 Conference and 4-19 for the
season, play home matches
against Stanford and California
this weekend. Despite its lack of
success against conference oppo
nents. head coach (ferry Gregory
said his team has good chances
for wins against two of its last
three opponents. California and
Oregon State.
"Those are two teams that we
have no excuse for if we lose. We
need to go out there and compete
hard.” Gregory said.
Oregon faces defending nation
al champion Stanford Friday
night at 7:05. Stanford, 10-4 in
the Poc-10. is ranked sixth nation
ally and has been ranked us high
as second this season. Gregory
said the Cardinal is a young hut
very athletic and talented team.
The Ducks hope that swing hit
ter I-aKeina Woods, fourth in the
conference in digs with a 3.77
average, will be at full strength
for the match. An ankle injury
sustained lust weekend slowed
down Woods in Oregon's last two
matches

ing practice until today," (ire
gory said Thursday "She looked
pretty good, but we ll have to see
how she feels tomorrow."
Oregon plays California, 3-12
in the Pac-10. Saturday night at
7:05. The first meeting between
the two teams was a five-game
battle, with California winning
the fifth game 19-17.
"Against California, wo match
up very evenly." Gregory said.
"There's no physical superiority
on either side It’s a winnablo
match for us, and we'll consid
er ourselves favorites going in."
The Ducks hove lost several
close matches in eeunt weeks.
Gregory said the team has spent
time in practice this week work
ing on starting games foster.
The object is to win games
more easily, and more impor
tantly. to avoid having to come
from behind, especially when
matches go to five games
"We were working on the first
five points of the game," Grego
ry said. We're hoping that will
help us if we get to rally si oring
in the filth game, he said
